A nursing student from Denver was arrested after telling his therapist that he wanted to kill President Obama, and children at random. Mitchell Kenneth Kusick, a student at Colorado Mesa University, was being held in custody Tuesday (Nov. 13), under suspicion of making threats against the commander in chief.
Sources told local station KUSA-TV that Kusick detailed a plan to steal a shotgun from a family member to shoot innocent children on Halloween, and be the “guy who killed Obama.”
The 20-year-old shared his dreams with his therapist on Oct. 29, days before the POTUS made a campaign stop in Colorado. The therapist contacted police and Kusick was taken to a mental hospital.
Police did not know his motive for wanting to kill Obama in particular, but Kusick informed authorities that he aspired to be a mass murderer. He also studied stories about James Holmes, the man who went on shooting spree inside a Colorado movie theater. “Some people just want to watch the world burn down, and I'm one of them,” he told prosecutors, admitting to holding an interest in bombs.
Kusick's goal to kill the president was not a partisan choice, as he not only mailed in his ballot before Election Day but thought that Obama had done a good job of running the country. He told Secret Service agents that he had been planning the mass murder for five to six years.
It is unknown whether or not Kusick has obtained an attorney, but a detention hearing in his case has been scheduled for later this week.
