Just when you thought Nicki Minaj was the driving force behind her own wackiness, the Barbie shares how her mother sprinkled in some of that crazy. In an interview with FUSE TV posted Thursday (Nov. 29), the YMCMB rapper discussed her latest albums, her childhood inspirations, and plans for her next project.
One thing that doesn't shock fans at this point are Minaj's erratic outfits and wild style. The Queens native detailed her eagerness to reach her goals as a young dreamer and her desire to stand out early in her life. As for the wacky tendencies and crazy imagination, Minaj says her mother was the driving force. “My mother encouraged it because she was a little drama major herself, deep down in her heart,” she said. “She just encouraged all the craziness.”
The American Idol judge recalls striving for happiness and she also hopes to translate it in her music. Though last week's re-release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded The Re-Up didn't win big on the charts—selling 36,000 copies and debuting at No. 26 on the Billboard 200—she's already on to the next. Minaj also expressed how The Re-Up gave her momentum going into her next album.
She also dished that there are no collaboration plans in her near future. “At this point, it doesn't even matter, to be honest. I've worked with so many amazing people and thank them again for giving me the opportunity. I feel like whoever I'm meant to work with, I'll work with them. It's out of my hands, it's out of my control now in terms of who I want to work with. I think it's just about the right time and the right chemistry.”
Maybe Minaj doesn't see the need for a collaboration wish list given her feature resume. She's worked with artists like, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Drake, and Kanye West, among others.
Either way, she promises bigger and better things on her projects to come.
