The Air Jordan XI in the ‘Bred’ colorway is priced at $185 at retail. Apparently, that is the cost of a life as Houston man was gunned down for his shiny new pair.

On Monday, Dec. 31, Anthony Quinn Wade, 19, was charged with capital murder in the death of Joshua Wood, who was shot and killed after purchasing a pair of  Air Jordan XIs a couple of weeks ago.

The Houston Chronicle reports:

Wood, 22, and his friend were parked in the 1700 block of Plumwood in northwest Harris County when two armed men emerged from a green car and demanded the sneakers, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver ran off leaving Wood behind in the car, where he was shot. Wood managed to slide behind the wheel and drive off, but crashed between two homes and hit a gas line, according to reports. Woods was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Police arrested Neal Bland, 18, and Kegan Arrington, 19, in connection with Wood’s death. They are scheduled to appear Wednesday in the 178th State District Court. Wade’s next scheduled court appearance is Thursday.

Wood was shot at about 10:30am on Friday, December 21, the day of the of the retro sneakers initial release. Wood and the driver had returned from reportedly purchasing several pairs of the highly coveted sneakers from the Willowbrook Mall when they were approached by the shooters. Wood, who was only 22 years-old, was taken to Houston Northwest Hospital, where he died of his injuries a week later.

All three suspect have been charged with capital murder.

The death of a man over rubber and nylon is just senseless. By the looks of their mugshots (see gallery below), these teens could easily be your homies or sons. Teach them better.
