Fans of legendary West Coast icon Tupac “2Pac” Shakur around the world certainly rejoiced at news that a biopic about the late rapper would be coming soon. After ongoing rumors and several false starts, the film finally secured the necessary financial backing and will begin shooting on location in Atlanta in 2014.

Deadline reported on the joint deal between Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Morgan Creek Productions, with both companies financing and producing the film with the working title, Tupac. Working a script written by Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft, the producers are expecting a new draft from the pair in a couple of weeks before shooting on location in Atlanta this coming February.

The producers also have at their disposal a $45 million budget, and free reign to use music from 2Pac’s lengthy catalog. Afeni Shakur, 2Pac’s mother, will also serve as a co-producer of the film. A director and main star has yet to be set, but Deadline threw around the names of Anthony Mackie and Michael B. Jordan as potentials.

Emmett/Furla/Oasis were responsible for producing the Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg hit, 2 Guns.
