November 23 marks the 20th anniversary of Snoop Dogg‘s seminal debut album Doggystyle. To commemorate the momentous occasion, the West Coast legend, operating under the moniker DJ Snoopadelic, debuts a mixtape full of the dynamic samples used to create each track.

This sounds like your mother’s Sunday afternoon playlist for sure. The soulful seeds of what came to be known was G-Funk can be heard from artists like Parliament, Curtis Mayfield, George McCrae, Ohio Players, Carlos Santana, and more.

An older, wiser Snoop also provides listeners with entertaining commentary detailing the reasons why certain samples were selected, the rhymes they inspired, and more.

If anything, this will take fans back to a time when Hip-Hop artists delivered one classic album after another.

As for Snoop Dogg, he’s still one of the most relevant artists in the game all of these years later. Hear what started it all below.
