The 45th NAACP Image Awards went down yesterday (Feb. 22) in grandiose fashion as 12 Years a Slave continued its dominant march to the Oscars, raking in four wins including Outstanding Motion Picture.
Newly-minted Hollywood starlet Lupita Nyong’o added a companion to her SAG Award by nabbing the Best Supporting Actress win.
ABC’s jaw-dropping series Scandal also was well-represented by taking home the Outstanding Drama Series and the show’s star, Kerry Washington was awarded Outstanding Actress in a drama series.
Oprah Winfrey was a highlighted speaker as she honored the late freedom fighter Nelson Mandela by sharing personal recollections of her experiences with him right before Stevie Wonder orchestrated a musical tribute that moved the entire audience.
