Utah Congresswoman Mia Love has immediately become the face of last night’s Republican takeover as she made history by becoming the first African-American Republican woman to win a seat at the House of Representatives.
Via MSN:
Love, who is the former mayor of Saratoga Springs, defeated Democrat Doug Owens in an open race to succeed retiring Rep. Jim Matheson (D), by 49 to 47 percent, according to The Associated Press.
Love ran unsuccessfully against Matheson in 2012, but the rising GOP star was able to claim victory Tuesday.
“Thank you for the trust you have placed in me,” she jubilantly shouted at her victory acceptance speech. “I will work every day to make sure I’m deserving of it. Regardless of who you voted for today, I hope you know that I’m going to represent all of you in Washington and I invite you to engage with me in finding the real solutions to the challenges we face as a country.”
Speaking of Republican takeovers, social media is currently being set ablaze with political charged memes, seeing that President Obama is going to have a tough time getting anything passed in his last two years as commander-in-chief.
