Boxing is a sport that is wildly popular but still somewhat under appreciated when you consider what the combatants go through to put on a good show. Bernard Hopkins talks about this and more with The Breakfast Club.
As the former middleweight champion nears 50 years of age, not only is he becoming more craftier in the ring but wiser overall.
Angela Yee and Charlamagne The God got B-Hop to discuss his storied career, why he keeps fighting at this age, a very interesting name change, Mayweather versus Pacquiao and more.
So we present the top 10 things we learned from The Breakfast Club Bernard Hopkins interview. Do you think he’s right about Floyd and Manny never fighting? Sound off below.

1. The Alien
When asked why he changed his nickname from The Executioner to The Alien, he simply stated that fighting at his age isn’t the norm. So therefore he is something from another world.
2. The Fight
He will fight again but it’s no longer about the paycheck. The opponent has to be dangerous and the situation has to be right.
3. Father Time
He doesn’t look at it like he is fighting father time but rather not accepting limitations that society puts on age.
4. King
He was born on King’s Day and says he was special when he was young without even knowing it.
5. Philly
Before boxing Bernard was in the streets and was considered a disciplinarian.
6. Prison
When Bernard left prison the warden told him he would be back. B-Hop used that as motivation to defy the odds and keep him grounded even though he has enjoyed success beyond his wildest dreams.
7. The Business
Did you know boxers typically only get to keep around 25% of their earnings? Also pay per views are a huge risk in boxing as you don’t get any upfront monies to promote the fight versus getting an upfront check from a network like Showtime.
8. Pac vs Floyd
He seriously doubts Floyd and Manny will ever fight as Floyd doesn’t like Manny’s promoter at all which makes it difficult for both parties to come to the table.
9. Moral Victories
Bernard doesn’t believe in moral victories. Either you win or lose. But if he loses he makes all his opponents earn their wins.
10. The Story
He also believes if he were any other race his story would have been more widespread in terms of beating the odds of prison, accolades and fighting at his age.
