Power is more than an enthralling TV drama; it’s a culture. If you’ve been a part of the #PowerTV community over the last year and change, then you know how real it gets.
Some of you may have fell behind and need to play catch-up. Not to worry, we won’t ridicule you with slander or libel. We know Saturdays in the summer are more lit than Christmas trees in December. We wanted to relive the season and entice fans to fire up their content provider of choice and get up to speed on Ghost, Tasha, Tommy and the rest of our favorites.
Check out some of the major storylines from Season 2…
Ghost vs. Angela
Tommy reveals to Ghost that Angela is a U.S. District Attorney, after finding out himself in the season 1 finale. Ghost is visibly torn between believing Tommy and wanting to believe that there’s a mistake. So he does what any normal intelligent drug dealing kingpin would do: he keeps having sex with her while investigating her every move. Angela’s love for Ghost clouds her to any suspicion of Ghost and almost resulted in her losing her job. As a lawyer she can deduce with the best of them, as evident by her connecting the dots towards Tommy being involved in the Felipe Lobos drug game. Ironically, she chased all leads both blatant and obscure to Ghost when the strongest lead was lying in her bed the entire time.

Angela gets closest to Ghost and his secret when they bring Holly in for questioning. Holly reveals the true identity of Ghost, and Angela is crushed. Although Ghost builds an elaborate plan (which works) to have Holly disavow his involvement, we see that Angela isn’t 100% convinced that Ghost is innocent. Cloning a phone to keep tabs? Yeah, that’s not going to end well for anyone!

Tommy: The REAL Ghost
Yeah, I said it! Tommy is an impulsive dude who spends more time partaking in coke parties that would make the 86 Mets blush, but he knows how to efficiently run a drug operation. Ghost gives him more authority to run the business and his narcotic wisdom flourishes in the process. He knows not to go to war with the Serbs and instead cut off their drug supply thus making them a willing partner with minimal bloodshed. He moves the drug money to secure locations after a hunch that the feds were watching. He makes the connections to Ruiz and the other members of the cartel and gains their respect. Since episode 1, Tommy kept the drug business in focus while seeing Truth and Ghost’s nightclub as nothing more than a money laundering front. You can tell that Tommy lives for the fast life and will stop at nothing to succeed.
Tommy’s only misstep was bringing Holly into the fold (and trusting Kanan but we’ll get to that later). He fell in love and wanted to keep it real with his main chick, so he informed her on all of his drug moves. Hey, players mess up too sometimes. The love between Holly and Tommy remained strong through the last few episodes. Holly wanted nothing more than to see her and Tommy prosper at any cost. She was willing to give up Ghost in order for them to live free. She knew Tommy well enough to chain him to a bed when she told him about Angela and the possible deal in place. She knew he would choose Ghost over her, and opted to leave, while still protecting him.
Kanan vs. Everyone
We saw glimpses of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s character Kanan in season 1, but season 2 gave him new opportunities to shine. Kanan, fresh from a 10 year bid, readied himself to reclaim his once lost drug mantel. He hired the season 1 hit on the entire drug operation (including Ghost) and looked to close on his quest for the throne. He killed “pink sneakers” with the assistance of his new soldier Dre. He killed Q-Dubs and positioned himself to take over the RSK territory with Ghost and Tommy’s blessing. He leads by example and fear, as Dre soon found out when one of his boys got on Kanan’s bad side. We discover that Ghost and Tasha set Kanan up to get arrested and they suspect that he knows and wants revenge. I have to admit: It’s hard to hate Kanan when the dudes he brought up betrayed him. We know that when Kanan is on screen, something is going down! He hasn’t been around for the last few episodes, but as we saw from the previews for this week, he’s done a lot more than just “stay low and build”
Ghost vs. Tasha: “Why Her?!”
The season opened up with Tasha revealing to Ghost that she knows about the affair with Angela and wants it to end. Throughout much of season 1, Ghost lived a dual life romantically, craving that old High School loving while maintaining his home. Now that his affair is out in the open, Ghost had two choices: get right or get left. You can only guess what he chose to do. Not only did he keep the affair going, he doubled down by taking Angela to Miami!
Tasha prepared herself for this situation and has taken every precaution to protect herself and show Ghost that he should have never stepped out on her. She opened a separate bank account in her name only, changed the lock code in their penthouse so that Ghost could no longer enter without her permission, and toyed with Shawn, making him both her willing lover and informant against Ghost! A fender bender causes Ghost to admit to Tasha that Angela is a federal lawyer looking to put his operation out of business Tasha realizes that if Ghost goes to jail her kids and her livelihood will be no more, so she persuades Ghost to keep sleeping with Angela in order to“keep their enemies close”. Let’s not also forget that Tasha is the best wing woman ever (see episode 7 for more)!
Ghost vs. Stern
Simon Stern has been the Lex Luthor to Ghost’s Superman all season. Stern went the corporate vulture route to become the landlord for Truth and force Ghost to work under the Stern brand. Truth to Ghost represents legitimacy. A constant theme throughout the season deals with future aspirations. He asks Dre if he wants to hustle his entire life. He constantly discusses his origin and how he could be more than street. Truth is his way out of drug dealing, and without Truth he feels trapped and doomed to a limited legacy. Ghost always has a plan and rallying other club owners under Stern to eventually flip seems like a sound idea. Ghost knows that with Kantos altering the profits to ensure that Truth never reaches the magical 20% mark to justify returning ownership to Ghost, he has to go the espionage route to get leverage. His findings make for interesting allies and scenarios for Ghost going forward.
These few storyline highlights couldn’t explain the entire season in detail, but it serves as a solid guide to our current situation. Ghost wants to repair his family life and regain truth. Angela wants Felipe Lobos at any cost, even her irrational dreams of being Mrs. James St. Patrick. Tasha wants love but will settle for financial security and family stability. Tommy wants to be a successful control substance connoisseur, and Kanan wants to f*ck everything up!
Three more episodes to go. If you fell behind on the season, you better set some time aside and binge till you drop. This rollercoaster ride will either end beautifully or become the most elegant disaster we’ve ever seen on TV.
