To be clear, there’s absolutely nothing funny about the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three people and injured over 140, Monday (April 15). But somewhere in between the tragedy and finally the capture of 19-year-old bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the media has been unintentionally fumbling and bumbling.

Whenever a tragedy of this magnitude occurs, reporters rush to the scene to fight for 24-hour coverage. As a result information gets muddled, the press gets fatigued, and the viewing public gets to have a quick guilty laugh about the audacity of the faux pas.

Since Monday, we’ve witnessed a bunch of failures that were pretty damn funny. So, after thinking long and hard on the issue (because again, we’re not making light of the bombings), Hip-Hop Wired decided to point out the missteps that probably weren’t meant to be hella awkward, but they were.

Check them out below.

Misinformation

Two days after the explosions, the suspect had been caught–but not really. With so many confusing reports, CNN had its first (of many) meltdowns under pressure. It was glorious.

Flocking To This Courthouse

How awkward for the media to swarm this courthouse before they were sure the suspect was actually there. Waste of gas.

Asking Us For Help

First the FBI said they didn’t want the public to know the name of the suspects, then had to turn to us for help and release their photos. United we stand?

Calling A Suspected Killer A “True Angel”

C’mon dude. Have a little respect for the lives lost here. We know you’re distraught, and you lost a son, but “true angel” seems like a stretch, no?

Throwing Questions At This Guy

This is the uncle of the alleged suspects, and he’s pretty pissed. He’s obviously upset that his nephews potentially committed a terrorist act, but even after telling reporters that his English wasn’t great, they wouldn’t leave him alone. His anger is real.

The “Dark-Skinned” Comment

Do better CNN. Was it really necessary to call the suspect “dark-skinned” (without any word on what they were wearing, height, etc.)? Ever heard of fact-checking? Also, both suspects ended up being pretty pale.

The Explanation Of The “Dark-Skinned” Comment

CNN’s John King explained why he used “dark-skinned” with the above tweet. Didn’t go over so well.

Stinky-Breath Interviews

A friend of one of the suspects announced that he didn’t even brush his teeth before doing this live interview. Thanks for the warning, chump.

Asking To Give A Shoutout To A Suspected Terrorist

Suspect, Dzhokar Tsarnaev’s, friend asked the TODAY show if he could send him a message. Bad timing my dude. Bad timing.

He wasn’t alone though, pretty much all of Tsarnaev’s friends boasted about how great of a person he is. Okay.

Kinky Pink Toys

CNN Skyped with someone who had pink self-pleasure toy visible in the screen. F-A-I-L.

Dragging Hip-Hop Into It

You knew that was coming. One of the suspects listened to rap music, so Hip-Hop is to blame. Case closed!
