Verizon Wireless just added another addition to race for the best smartphone battery life in the land. The phone company introduced  three new Droids in New York Tuesday (July 23), one which boasts 48 hours worth of battery life.

The new Droid Maxx is 5 inches long, thinner than its predecessor, lasts over 10 hours longer, and retails for $299.

 Yahoo! News reports:

Verizon on Tuesday unveiled its brand new Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini, which will headline the carrier’s Android smartphone lineup heading into the fall. The new handsets feature the Droid brand’s most impressive specs to date and they will replace the previous-generation Droid RAZR HD, RAZR Maxx HD and RAZR M smartphones.

Beginning with the Droid Ultra, spec highlights include a 5-inch 720p display, Motorola’s X8 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 10-megapixel camera and a Kevlar case. The Motorola Droid Maxx is all about battery life, featuring nearly identical specs as the Droid Ultra but with a much larger battery. How much larger? Motorola says it will deliver an unbelievable 48 hours of usage on a single charge despite being 9% thinner than the Droid RAZR Maxx.

All three new Droid smartphones are based on Motorola’s new platform that touts 24% faster CPU performance and 100% faster GPU processing. They also all feature touchless gesture control support and an active display that lights up only a portion of the panel to display notifications.

Verizon has seen a jump in Apple iPhone sales, the rollout of Droid models are attempt to compete with another smartphone giant. “Samsung has totally overrun the Droid brand,” research analyst Maribel Lopez told CNET. “All of the cool factor that was once Droid now belongs to the Galaxy brand.”

Samsung has worked to trump iPhone sales with an influx of its Galaxy models and new and improved marketing tactics. For example, the Galaxy 4 came with a free download of Jay-Z’s new album, and the Galaxy Note II called on a huge dose of celebrity support.

Nonetheless,  Motorola product management leader Rick Osterloh says Droid is still in the race. “There are millions of users that are happy with it and loyal to the Droid brand. Droid is a formula that works very well.”

Pre-orders for the new Droids  begin next Tuesday (July 30) via www.droiddoes.com. Maxx is the most expensive of the trio, while the Droid Ultra retails for $199,  and Droid Mini has a $99 price tag.
