You can always count on Stalley to drop a quality body of work. We expect nothing less from his Honest Cowboy mixtape, due out August 8. Last night the MMG lyricist heightened anticipation for the project by unveiling its artwork and tracklist.
Stalley released two tracks in recent weeks — an audible call to arms titled “Raise Your Weapons” and the boom-bap inspired “A-Wax” — to support the tape. Oddly, the latter is nowhere to be found on the 10-tune opus.
This continues the bearded rappers legacy of delivering free tapes that sound more like albums. Production from DJ Quik, Cardo, Terrace Martin, and his go-to option Block Beataz infer that Stalley was intent on creating a sonic experience.
Guest appearances are limited, but “NineteenEigthy7,” featuring ScHoolboy Q, should be a bright spot.
