Artists like Pharrell and Clipse may have put BAPE on the map, but it was Japanese fashion designer, DJ, and producer Nigo who founded A Bathing Ape. Having parted ways with his brainchild, the creative now services clothing mainstay Uniqlo as their Creative Director.
Today, we receive a preview of the Spring/Summer 2014 UT collection, affectionately titled “The New Model T.” This, of course, has a double meaning, as the name is inspired by the title of the first affordable automobile created by Ford and the idea that the apparel will create a new mold for t-shirts.
The apparel is highly inspired by pop culture of all varieties. This includes everything from films like Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and Gremlins to animated characters like Superman and Snoopy. “The New Model T” is said to don a whopping 1000 designs, and was done in collaboration with brands like Coca-Cola, Sanrio, The Simpsons, Line Friends, and Peanuts.
Many of you with have memories of nostalgia as you pass through flicks of the collection on the following pages. Give your thoughts in the comments.
