Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s 2013 hasn’t exactly been the smoothest year of his career, or personal life for that matter. Just when we thought SB would close out his 365 on a quiet note, a woman by the name of Diamond Shantaniece MacKay (not to be confused with on-again-off-again girlfriend, also named Diamond) slapped the 23-year-old with legal docs claiming her fathered her 5-year-old son.
MacKay’s revelation is one of many awkward incidents the Atlanta native has gotten himself into as of late. On a career front, Soulja Boy dropped a few projects (including the King Soulja mixtape in March, and an All Black EP) yet hasn’t been able to recapture the momentum of some of his earlier work. We have to give him credit for trying, but that recognition doesn’t come without acknowledging a few missteps, bad decisions, and a tattoo that he should’ve probably thought through a litter harder.
In honor of 2013 creeping out the door, take a look back at some of Soulja Boy’s most struggalicious moments from the last 350 plus days.
Hopefully, 2014 will be better.

Permanent Loyalty
Soula Boy cemented his “Rich Gang” allegiance with a face tattoo, sparking rumors that he was signing to Cash Money. Yeah, that didn’t happen.
Epic Bentley Struggle
In January Soulja Boy’s friend got in an accident driving the Atlanta rapper’s red Bentley. The driver fled the scene not knowing that secret cameras all over L.A. snapped proof of the hit-and-run, which led to the luxury ride getting impounded months later.
Chain Gang
Soulja Boy had his fraudulent chain snatched by Chief Keef’s homie Ballout in April, leading to a social media battle that got way out of hand.
What’s Beef?
Apparently important enough to threaten someone’s life on Facebook, of all places. Soulja Boy threatened to murder Chief Keef over the aforementioned chain acquisition.
These two are still going at it, by the way.
Love & Other Drugs
In 2013 Soulja Boy’s companion of choice was codeine, aka “sizzurp,” aka “lean,” aka “cough syrup that can kill you.”
SB Instagrammed his love for codeine earlier in the year, and will hopefully kick the habit– if he hasn’t already. The first step is admitting that there’s a problem.
Airplane Boot
Over the summer, Soulja Boy was kicked of an American Airlines plane because he refused to take a damn seat. He later apologized.
Caught Up in the Rapture…Of Superhead
This also happened to Soulja Boy this year.
Renowned fellatio expert and professional jumpoff/mother/author Karrine “Superhead” Steffans got close with Soulja Boy during her summer run through rappers like Lil’ Wayne, and Yung Burg. At least she keeps it consistent.
Work Release
John Boy, a former artist on Soulja Boy’s SODMG imprint joined Riff Raff, Lil B, and Arab in departing from the label.
Choosing to go out by way of a 12-minute video this year, John Boy slammed his label boss for stalling when it came to actually working for his artists. According to the 21-year-old, Soulja Boy didn’t communicate very much aside from hitting him with ultra-professional DMs and texts like, “Turn up bro,” and “Swag.”

Silver Linings Playbook
Soulja Boy reunited with ex-girlfriend Diamond sometime this year. She’s probably not too excited that her “repeat” (allegedly) seeded the womb of a woman who shares the same name but listen, life gets sticky sometimes –especially when there’s no condom involved.
