Lifetime duped us all last night. After much hype, it turns out that The Unauthorized Save by the  Bell Story wasn’t very salacious, and didn’t reveal any huge secrets about the cast of ’90s sitcom.
Apart from seeing how the show actually started (and canceled, more than once),  some relationship stuff  (Lark Vorhies a.k.a Lisa Turtle, and Mark Paul Gosselaar  a.k.a, Zack Morris) dated), a religious tidbit (Vorhies was raised as a Jehova’s Witness), and some parental stuff (Gosselaar talked back to his mom and blew his money on a motorcycle, because he’s a bad ass) there wasn’t much ear-bending info to pull from.
As for the casting choices, they weren’t perfect, but they weren’t terrible either. Even though the actors picked to portray Lisa, Screech,  Zack, Kelly Kapowski, AC Slater, and Jessie Spano didn’t really look like the characters, the wigs that some of them wore, were entertaining. To get specific, the guy playing Zack looked like his hair was about to check out at any moment, Slater’s infamous mullet didn’t have the same luster as it did in the 90s, and Screech’s curly top was a little small but close to accurate.
Unauthorized was more about Dustin Diamond, who played Screech, and how the former child would get drunk any and everywhere — including karate practice. Maybe the only real reason why this film was “unauthorized” is because Screech got so much screen time.
Also, Zack’s infamous cell phone didn’t have nearly enough scenes. Lifetime really dropped the ball on that one.
