Black Twitter, a social media group so significant that even Wikipedia has it as an entry, is a powerful and unstoppable force. And like most popular things, there are ways to flourish as a member of this segment of the fast-moving social media network.
While we’ve highlighted the best and brightest of Black Twitter in a special series of posts last year, we didn’t necessarily give users new to the world tips on how to get involved. In the following pages, Hip-Hop Wired will show you how to rep the Black Twitter set to the fullest.
Do let us know if we’ve missed anything key in the comments section or on our Facebook page. We also like tweets, too.

Clown Don Lemon
It is an almost certain guarantee that CNN’s resident Negro nitwit will make a goof while doing his job. The hashtag, #DonLemonReporting, is a good place to start and pokes fun at the journalist’s almost uncanny ability to ask questions that make little sense.
Meme Like You Mean It
Memes are the way of the social media world, and few do it better than Black Twitter. So, grab head to your handiest meme generator or photo editor and let the jokes fly – which leads to our next tip.
Don’t Be A Sharkbiter
There are more than a handful of personalities known for the funny stuff. Please join in on the jokey fun, but don’t steal jokes. It’s gonna get back to the originator.
Get Active

Beyond the jokes, Black Twitter is responsible for some of the most vital movements in the social media space. Examples such as #BlackLivesMatter, #BringBackOurGirls, #IcantBreathe and countless others have galvanized folks both young and old.
TV Togetherness
There’s nothing like watching the premiere of a new TV program on Black Twitter, especially a show that’s a total train wreck. Of note, the debuts of Empire, the re-airing of The Wire and other buzzing programs kept us on the edge of our seats.
Being Moody Is Cool

Another trend that has risen of late in the space is the “Mood” tweets. Example above.
Drag On aka Sling That Slander
There’s a lot of people on Twitter beyond Don Lemon that have been dragged through the mud. One thing folks do amazingly well is dish out heaping mounds of slander. A white Twitter user made the mistake of getting a little too involved in the affairs of Black folks and caught a bad one.
Stunt With The Best Of Them
Twitter is a wide open space, and can serve as a space to show out with the best of them. Beards, fresh gear, new cars, almost anything you can name, Black Twitter will always have time to give you a thumbs up or an epic thumbs down. Warning: don’t stunt if you’re not on point lest you’ll be the aim of the slander.
Connect With Famous Folks
Some people might say that celebrities on Twitter are doing it all wrong, but there’s are more than a few that truly get down with their fans. Although he’s not been terribly active, Philadelphia 76ers player Joel Embiid is must follow. Actor Samuel L. Jackson is also a hoot online. Do be warned: some celebs don’t operate their own accounts, which is kind of wack.
Talk Your (Sports) Ish..Carefully
No matter the sport or the season, Black Twitter goes hamburger, sausage and baloney meat over their favorite teams and players. Case in point: the Temecula Tofu Tussle got started over Kobe Bryant. Then there’s big NFL rivalries that are heating up as the playoffs are underway. NBA and college basketball also gets a ton of burn. Hockey? Not so much. Don’t blame us if you catch the fade, however.
