After visiting President Obama earlier this year N.E.R.D star Pharell Williams was
inspired and decided to start his own website, k!dult.com, to help inspire the youth and help to send positive messages.
Williams recently told MTV,
“If you’re somewhere between the age of 12 to 18 or 14 to 20, where are you getting your information from? What about the kid that’s deciding where he wants to go in his life? Where is he getting that from? We didn’t have anything that matched that demo and we didn’t have anything that matched that voice.”
The site is focused on politics, environmental awareness, business, science,
technology, fashion, games, and sports. I think Pharell is doing a great thing for
the youth.
Williams also has launched a K!dult Youth Leadership Conference that will take
place this Saturday in New York with guest speakers Diggy Simmons, Mimi Valdes,
and Williams himself.
Valdes , a former editor at VIBE magazine, also helps run the site with the super-producer.
Speaking of Valdes, Pharrell added,
“She understands the voice. It’s a colorless voice. That’s what this generation is, these kids are glass: They’re not black, white or purple. They’re human beings. They’re gonna be the deciders of the future, so we need to educate them and do it now.”
