Whether or not Odd Future stays intact remains to be seen but the once prominent rap collective were one of the few groups to make an impact with a large internal roster. Just like the Wu-Tang Clan before them.
Back in 2011 when the Golfwang were all the rage, the media couldn’t help themselves by piling on the comparisons with the legends from Shaolin. But it was Tyler, The Creator’s response to the comparisons that allowed the media to run with “beef” in the title. During an interview with Cipha Sounds on Shade 45, Tyler blatantly called the Wu “old as f*ck” and shunned any resemblance to them.
During a recent interview with VLADTV, Inspectah Deck revealed that those words didn’t go unpunished as they ran up on the OFWFGTA during an European rap tour.
“The boy Tyler, the Creator was on some, ‘We ain’t them, don’t compare us to them, and yadda yadda ya'” the Rebel INS recalled. “It should’ve been taken as a compliment. We had to approach [them] in Europe.”
Apparently the incident went down without a physical altercation because Odd Future’s legacy would have been seriously altered if so.
“I’m not saying nothing that ain’t facts,” Deck continued. “Them young dudes to us so it’s not like I’m looking for stripes to say we approached them. But it was more or less like how you not take that as a compliment?”
