Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones put on a masterful performance on the field Sunday (Oct. 2) afternoon as his squad vanquished the Carolina Panthers with ease. But what turned heads of fans and fantasy footballers worldwide was the 300 yards Jones hauled in on 12 receptions.
Jones, 27, wasn’t much of a factor last week in his team’s win over the New Orleans Saints last week but all of that changed today. Jones was poised for a breakout day after going for 106 yards in a second-week contest against the Oakland Raiders. But few would have expected Jones to have the kind of game he did. Quarterback Matt Ryan had a monster game himself with 503 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.
The big day for Jones and Ryan comes at the expense of another Carolina loss, who look like former shells of themselves after a 1-3 2016 campaign has people wondering if last year’s amazing season and Super Bowl was nothing more than a fluke.
The reaction from sports outlets and on social media has been growing since the conclusion of the contest. Fair to say that anyone who picked Ryan or Jones for their fantasy squad are extremely happy right now. And to add, it’s the first 300-yard game by a receiver since the recently retired Calvin Johnson did so in 2013.
