Today is Tupac Amaru Shakur’s birthday, and a new biopic about the late icon, All Eyez On Me, is finally in theaters. However, one prominent star who isn’t too pleased with the film is Jada Pinkett Smith.
Her sentiments on Tupac are particularly worth noting because the two of them were high school friends. However, it seems that the filmmakers didn’t consult with her before taking liberties with the facts of their real life interactions.
“Forgive me… my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez On Me to stand as truth,” began Will Smith’s wife on Twitter, and down the rabbit hole we went. “Pac never read me that poem. I didn’t know that poem existed until it was printed in his book.”
Smith went on to detail more inconsistencies between the film and real life. Inconsistencies she took personally (she called them “deeply hurtful”), but made sure not to blame the actors for.
50 Cent was vocal, though less classy, about his disdain for the film today (June 16), too. See the Pinkett Smith’s spell out her issues with All Eyez On Me below and on the following pages.
