At one time in the game Snoop Doggy Dogg would’ve needed all kinds of security while strolling through the concrete jungles of New York City but these days he’s as beloved a Hip-Hop icon as your favorite Big Apple rapper. Having flown into the city that never sleeps to turn up at 50 Cent’s recent party where he barred Wendy Williams from entering, Snoop was able to take the time to check out The Breakfast Club to give listeners some game for free.
Talking about how he squashed his beef with Suge Knight to being the catalyst behind getting Tupac to Death Row, Snoop’s lived a life that was made for the big screen. But for now we’ll take these radio interviews.
Here are the 9 things we learned from Snoop Dogg on The Breakfast Club.
1. Wendy Williams
Snoop says when he took the picture with Wendy Williams after she was blocked from entering 50’s party, she was waiting outside and he took the pic with her while he was leaving. He said had he knew she was waiting to get in he would’ve gave her his wristband to get in when he left.
2. Suge knight
Even after all the drama he’s had with Suge Knight over the decades, Snoop’s on a better page with the former Death Row CEO/enforcer saying, “I wasn’t meant to clash with him. We came out together. It’s like brothers… Even if you were wrong or he was wrong, it becomes a place in your heart where you was like ‘I need to forgive him and I need to forgive myself even if I was wrong.” He says after they spoke one-on-one in a hotel room in Vegas they began rebuilding their relationship before Suge ended up getting locked up. That being said he doesn’t think Dr. Dre and Suge will ever patch things up.
3. Top 50 Rappers
You can add Snoop Dogg to the long list of rappers looking at that “Top 50 Rappers” list sideways. Though he does admit a young Snoop would’ve went off and called out rappers who weren’t better than him, OG Snoop says the only list he’s concerned with is the one waiting at the gates of heaven.
4. Tupac
Snoop says he’s the one who convinced Suge Knight to get Tupac out of jail and sign him to Death Row after hearing all the rumors of how Tupac was getting treated in jail. Once he got there he had Daz give him all the beats he was going to lace Snoop with and Dre hand over the “California Love” song that was poised to be on Dre’s next album. “I’m a team player so I had no problem bringing with him and letting him be a part of our thing because he was gonna give us what we was missing.”
5. Tupac 2
Touching on Death Row being both a gift and curse for Tupac, Snoop agrees and feels that though Pac influenced millions around the world, he was influenced by the wrong people himself. “It don’t make sense to join a gang after you become successful. It don’t make sense to become active after you become successful because it don’t add up.”
6. Nipsey Hussle
On why he compared Nipsey Hussle to Jesus Christ, Snoop says, “A lot of people didn’t know him, but they sure wanted to know about him when he passed away and once they found out about him they understood what his legacy was about. Now his legacy is living bigger without him being here… I ain’t never seen Jesus, but I been hearing about him.” Well, if religious heads ain’t got a problem with Donald Trump referring to himself as the “second coming” and “chosen one” they shouldn’t have any problem with this comparison. Just sayin.’
7. Workout Warrior
Snoop says it was Wiz Khalifa who inspired him to join the gym and workout like a madman. He says after getting right and in shape he decided it wouldn’t hurt to miss one day… then another… and another. Now he can’t remember when was the last time he was at the gym.
8. His Game’s To Be Sold Not Told
As for all those stories from his Death Row days, Snoop says he plans to tell them all in his biopic From Vietnam to Death Row. He named it that because his father was a Vietnam vet who not only survived the way but also received the Purple Heart for his service. Respect.
9. Jay-Z
Asked what he feels about the controversial Jay-Z and NFL partnership, Snoop says “Well, coach Snoop don’t know the intricacies of that. He don’t know the dynamics of that but what I would have loved to have seen was somebody really asking Roger Goodell a question of ‘why did y’all blackball Colin Kaepernick?’” After Da God explained he did ask and Roger said any team was free to sign Kaep, Snoop interjected, “That ain’t the answer I was looking for. You n*ggas blackballed him, period. Ain’t no in-betweens to that.” He does take issue with Colin settling with the NFL saying, “I wouldn’t have settled. I would’ve went all the way till the wheels fall off to where they would’ve had to give me a billion dollars.” Deadass, b. He does feel it should’ve been Colin at that meeting instead of Jay-Z though.
