Congressman Barney Frank is repenting for distasteful comments, he made about Trayvon Martin during a commencement speech over the weekend. While at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Sunday (May 27), the 72-year-old told students “you now have a hoodie you can wear and no one will shoot at you.”
The crowd reportedly responded with jeers and “nervous laughter.” In the aftermath, Frank explained that he never meant for the joke to be offensive but rather a commentary on the racial profiling that led to the shooting death of the 17-year-old, at the hands of George Zimmerman. According to Frank he wanted to “ridicule the notion that a hooded sweatshirt is somehow sinister.”

Frank is just one of many people who have made jokes at the expense of Martin, then recounted their words. The biggest repeat offender appears to be Geraldo Rivera, who has made countless comments blaming the unarmed teen's death on his decision to wear a hooded sweatshirt.

Perhaps these two need to start thinking before they speak.
