We’ve seen some of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars come out of New Orleans over the past few decades, but none have sounded like Dee-1. Hip-Hop Wired spoke to him about recently signing to RCA Inspire, theĀ Psalms of David II mixtape, and more.
Far from a newcomer, the MC actually spent eight years earning his stripes independently. The aforementioned project was the first to release since inking his deal. On that, Dee-1 said, “This is one where a lot of people are curious to see what’s his first body of work going to sound like now that he’s signed.”
These days, many artists find ways to remain successful through the independent grind, but the Big Easy native contends that a major label has “a big enough machine to push the magnitude of the music I do.”
Hear Dee-1 discuss said music, the producers who assist with the creation, and tons of other topics below. We’ve included an additional freestyle on the following page.
