Quentin Tarantino’s filmography rivals most Hip-Hop catalogs with usage of the n-word (and that is the one ending in “er” for your information) but in real life, he wants to show he’s down for one of the most gripping issues that’s plaguing the Black community.
That issue of course, is police brutality.
The Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained filmmaker marched with protestors and spoke out against the killing of unarmed African-Americans over the weekend in New York City during the “Say Their Name” a.k.a. #RiseUpOctober rally. The proper title of the rally (which was organized by Carl Dix of the Revolutionary Communist Party and author and Dr. Cornel West) on Facebook was to speak out the names of the victims whose deaths have caused nationwide spurn, such as Michael Brown in Ferguson, Tamir Rice in Cleveland and Freddie Gray in Baltimore.
“A 12-year-old black male child,” Tarantino said, as the crowd chanted Tamir Rice. “On November 22, 2014, Tamir was playing with a toy gun in the park. After a 911 call where the person calling said the gun was probably a fake and the person holding it was probably a juvenile, the police rushed on to the scene and shot Tamir within two seconds.”
Embed from Getty ImagesThe Academy Award-winning director also spoke out against the death of Antonio Guzmán López, the 38-year-old unarmed man who was killed by San Jose State University Police in February 2014, whose case still hasn’t went to trail.
