As much as the 2013 Grammy Awards are about recognizing the musical achievements of the industry’s brightest stars, it’s also a showcase for head-turning fashion. This year the red carpet entrance didn’t disappoint, although along with the dazzling wears appeared some questionable choices as well.
Jennifer Lopez made a bold statement, showing off her well-toned legs in an all-black off the shoulder Anthony Vaccarello number. J-Lo stunted a bit on stage as well, after presenting the Pop solo Grammy to Adele alongside Pitbull. The aforementioned Adele kept it old-school with a pink floral dress and accompanying black clutch. Rihanna was absolutely stunning in a tame (by her standards) flowing red Alaia dress. Her beau, Chris Brown, kept it, ahem, breezy, with an all-white fitted suit and kept the color scheme honest down to the hard bottoms. Rick Ross looked like a bawse in a sharp tux complete with high-end cigar (and bodyguards) as well.
Nas kept it classy with a gold tux with black trousers, perhaps thinking he was a shoe-in for the Best Rap Album win before losing that nod to Drake. But as the case with all awards shows, someone’s going to be coming into joint looking a little crazy. Lupe Fiasco wore what appeared to be a new-wave black Jedi Knight outfit complete with all-black Y-3 footwear. Estelle’s dress certainly fit well but the print left a little to be desired. 2 Chainz should probably change his name to 2 Fangz after his Count Dracula-meets-Western Cowboy outfit. And while folks probably expected Wiz Khalifa to come with a crazy outfit on the carpet, he and his glowing mom-to-be fiancée Amber Rose looked great.
