Is this the tipping point where Call of Duty fans hop aboard what is hands down one of the best multiplayer first-person shooters in the gaming industry?
With the Games Developer Conference (GDC) in full swing, the gaming industry is reveling in all of the frames-per-second being offered by indie and next-gen developers. Today, Electronic Arts and studio DICE have released a beautifully crafted, 17-minute video (which you can see on the next page) featuring action from the first-person shooter Battlefield 4. The video, titled “Fishing in Baku,” focuses on the single-player campaign, starting out with a squad of soldiers trapped inside a sinking car before flashing back to kick off combat near a factory.
“As artists and craftspeople, we are focused on creating a dynamic, open design that brings people together with amazing, surprising unscripted moments that they’ll talk about for days,” says Patrick Soderlund, executive vice president of EA Games Label, in a statement. “That’s the beauty of Battlefield.”
Judging on the images shown by DICE, the game looks absolutely gorgeous and arrives just in time for the next-gen wave. Players will spot touches such as paint chipping off doors or finely-detailed debris strewn across buildings and streets. With the big question on everyone’s mind being how will DICE upgrade their stellar multiplayer mode for the 21st Century, it seems like the studio is already ahead of the curve.
Word is that the triple-A title will drop this fall, but no platforms were announced. Battlefield 3 launched on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so next-gen just sounds about right.
