Today’s news cycle was all about Jason Collins. The 34-year-old made history as the first active NBA player to come out the closet. While there have been detractors, most notably ESPN analyst Chris Broussard, the contingent in support for Collins has been overwhelming, especially from his NBA peers.
As an NBA journeyman, Collins has had plenty of teammates. A couple made sure to mention so when voicing their support via Twitter. “Jason’s s-xuality doesn’t change the fact that he is a great friend and was a great teammate,” tweeted Jason Kidd of the New York Knicks.
“Happy for @jasoncollins34 in his decision. A great teammate and friend. Thanks for helping me through my rookie season!! #classact #courage,” tweet Kevin Love.
Even Pau Gasol dropped a line, in Spanish. “Mucho respeto al valor demostrado por @jasoncollins34 haciendo pública su homos-xualidad hoy. La #FamiliaNBA te apoyamos Jason!”
