Over the weekend, Stussy released a Yo! MTV Raps-inspired capsule collection featuring 10 iconic photos of MCs from that era. If that wasn’t ill enough, the streetwear brand returns today with a two-part documentary that places a scope on the iconic television series.
The introductory portion, titled “The Importance of Yo! MTV Raps,” primarily focuses on the show itself and what it meant to the culture. The latter visual, “Fashion in the Golden Age of Hip Hop,” discusses the various brands prominent MCs of the moment wore and how it influenced fans near and abroad to emulate their style.
Bill Adler, Ed Lover, Questlove, Alchemist, MC Lyte, and Rakim are among a worthy list of guest speakers that provide a firsthand recollection of what it was like to see Hip-Hop blossom because of Yo! MTV Raps.
Catch the first installment of short doc below. The second piece can be seen on the next page.
