Although it’s been said that there’s no such thing as bad press, artists sometimes takes things too far with the media and end up losing out on money and opportunities. Hip-HopWired takes a look at a handful of rappers who have suffered a loss of this sort after talking a little too much to the media.
There’s something really attractive about speaking your mind, especially with the outspoken artists we have today. While we as fans enjoy the juicy tidbits of information, it doesn’t always bode well for the other side. In fact, these media snafus can end up costing artists a lot of money and exposure in a fickle business where any slip-up stays with you forever.

Future Kicked Off Drake Tour After Blasting Rapper
This most recent instance of loose lips happened when Future threw some jabs at Drake’s latest album, Nothing Was The Same, during an interview with Billboard. Future’s reps claims he was misquoted, but Drake still kicked the crooner and rapper off the tour. Future is suing the Canadian star for $1.5 million in lost wages.
Rick Ross Loses Shine After Lackluster “U.O.E.N.O.” Explanation
Ricky Rozay flubbed a great opportunity to make amends for his date-rape lyrics on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” track but during an interview, it appeared the Florida native was reluctant to own his part. Ross probably won’t get any shoe deals going forward.
Royce Da 5’9 May Have Missed Out On Ghostwriting Cash
Slaughterhouse’s Royce Da 5’9 wasn’t the one to go to the press, but his manager blabbing that the Detroit rapper penned rhymes for Dr. Dre’s still-missing Detox album probably didn’t go over well at first. Royce said later in an interview with HipHopDX that he and the good doctor were on speaking terms.
Too $hort’s “Fatherly Advice” Cost Him Big
An ill-advised spot filmed for XXLMag.com involving Oakland veteran Too $hort went horribly awry, with the rapper essentially advising young boys how to bed a woman seemingly against her will. Pretty sure that killed some show money for him.
Seen Any Nas & Method Man Collabs Lately?
While Method Man apologized to Nas for speaking out of line on the Queensbridge rapper former marriage to Kelis, it’s pretty curious that the Wu-Tang Clan and Mr. Jones haven’t worked together much in recent times.
Jacki-O Struggle Snitched Her Way Out The Game
Miami rapper Jacki-O had a small buzz in the early aughts, but an alleged dust-up with fellow struggling rapper Foxy Brown apparently led to fisticuffs. Jacki-O took to an underground video media outlet, and hasn’t really made much of a splash since.
Joe Budden & Method Man Won’t Be Collaborating Either
After Joe Budden famously decried VIBE magazine’s “Best Rapper Alive” and his ranking underneath Method Man, the New Jersey native talked up the Wu-Tang Clan rapper live on Power 105. Budden challenged Meth and said he’ll “cut his head off lyrically.” Budden isn’t hurting necessarily, but it undoubtedly burned some bridges. There’s also that eye jammy that Jumpoff caught too.
Nas Gave Love To Hitler, For Some Odd Reason
Back in 2002, Nas made the big goof of naming Nazi criminal warlord Adolf Hitler as a figure he admired in a chat with SOHH, even lumping him next to Nat Turner and Huey Newton. This was before the social media age so while it got some traction, it largely fell off the radar. We can safely assume promoters worldwide wanted little to do with Nasty Nas back then.
