Your dreams of Oliver Stone directing a film about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. have been dashed. The renowned filmmaker took to Twitter to reveal that he is no longer involved in a biopic of the late, great Civil Rights leader.
“Sad news. My MLK project involvement has ended. I did an extensive rewrite of the script, but the producers won’t go with it,” tweeted Stone on Friday, January 17.
Apparently, Stone wanted to cover all aspects of King’s life, which would mean touching on difficult topics like his alleged penchant for infidelity. He add, “The script dealt w/ issues of adultery, conflicts within the movement, and King’s spiritual transformation into a higher, more radical being.”
Stone went on to say that the film’s producers felt King’s family and other leaders in the “black community” would not have approved of the film in order to maintain the late leader’s reputation.
Jamie Foxx was slated to play King in the biopic but there is no word on whether or not he is still involved.
