One of the biggest job qualifications for being a rapper is they have to be proficient in talking sh*t. Another good quality to possess is the ability to be able to actually deny that they are doing so.
YG recently stirred up a bit of controversy and managed to avoid drama at the same time after the Internets caught wind of his freestyle that was seemingly aimed at Problem and Tyga. The Compton native, whose My Krazy Life album recently edged the top spot of the Billboard charts, was adamant about he didn’t actually name drop any actual persons but the writings appeared to be on the wall regardless.
Rapper sneak diss records are an oft-used wild card within the culture that usually bring the best out of MCs. Given Hip-Hop’s high testosterone-fueled arena, it is a sly way to bait opposing challengers into responding, thus creating a beef which, as we know all too well, is great for selling records.
Check out the list we compiled of 12 songs that either lured a competitor out to battle, were ignored and fell flat on their face or still remain engimas to this day.

Nas – “U Wanna Be Me”
Suspected Target: Cormega
The blood on this one was so bad, he might as well named the track HIV.
Memphis Bleek – “My Mind Right”
Suspected Target: Nas
Jay ultimately decided to fight this battle for Young Memphis but the shots were very indirect here.
Lil’ Kim ft. Jay Z & The Notorious B.I.G. – Queen Bitch Pt. II (Remix)
Suspected Target: Nas, Mobb Deep
Nobody actually saw “Takeover” coming but we were tipped off considerably here.
Scarface ft. Z-Ro & Bun B
Suspected Target: 50 Cent
Gee, I wonder what gave this one away?
Lil Kim – “Came Back For You”
Suspected Target(s): Eve, Foxy Brown
Neither one of the ladies gave Kimberly the dignity of a response so this never manifested into anything special.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony – “U Ain’t Bone”
Suspected Target(s): Twista, Do Or Die, Crucial Conflict
They never said any names but you probably wouldn’t have caught them with the whirlwind flow.
Common – “Sweet”
Suspected Target: Drake
At first he denied it but later applied it to Drizzy. It was a first-week sales thing.
Rick Ross ft. Drake & French Montana – “Stay Schemin”
Suspected Target: Common
What happened to “diss me and you’ll never hear a reply for it?”
Mobb Deep – “Crawlin'”
Suspected Target: Jay Z
Prodigy’s bars were dripping with struggle. He was better off not responding, or whatever this was.
Lil Wayne – “Beat Without Bass”
Suspected Target: Jay Z
This is pure ageism at its finest.
Nicki Minaj – “Stupid Hoe”
Suspected Target: Lil Kim
Nicki has repeatedly gone on record denying ever sending shots at the Queen Bee. “Roman’s Revenge” included. Nobody bought it, though.
LL Cool J, Dmx, Canibus, Redman, Method Man – “4, 3, 2, 1”
Suspected Target: Canibus
Uncle L invited then-newcomer Canibus on his song, didn’t like his verse, and changed his own verse to throw shots at his co-star. It doesn’t get any more shady than this.
