Young Thug’s popularity doesn’t match his transparency one bit. But that changed in a way with today’s revelation of Complex‘s cover story on the Atlanta native.

Though Thugga was extremely scant with the publication, a few quotables and testimony from close friends and collaborators gave some info on the newcomer’s artistry and personality. And that’s outside of his obvious eccentricities and popular singles. Needless to say that this will be entertaining.

After the jump, find the nine things we learned from Young Thug’s Complex cover story. Read up and give us your thoughts in the comments.

Thugga No Know Social Media?

The rapper was clueless when asked about his “Thugger Thugger Thursdays” music series, and admitted to not manning his own Instagram page. While that isn’t surprising, the volume at which he posts photos would make fans assume otherwise.

This Look Isn’t New

Many have commented on Young Thug’s interesting apparel choices since he became a point of conversation, but producer Dun Deal says that’s always been his look. “He’s always been an eccentric character,” said the “Stoner” beatsmith. “He was the first person I knew who was wearing skinny jeans and peacoats and stuff. He’s never been your typical Atlanta guy.”

DJs & Artists Are Eating On The Gravy Train

According to friend and producer Metro Boomin, folks are debuting old songs and verses by Thug now that he’s in the limelight. “Thug releases a lot of music, but you gotta understand it’s not really him though,” Metro said. “Now that he’s hot there’s a bunch of people that had songs just doing lame sh*t, putting it on their mixtapes and putting it out.”

Everybody eats, b.

Thug’s Label Affiliation Remain Vexing

Atlantic Records houses Thugga, but a long line of affiliations, including Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad (also under Atlantic), Future’s Freebandz, and of course his public dealings with Birdman have many confused as to where his alliance lies. Well, if you’re looking for answers, this isn’t the place, because Complex‘s numerous attempts at clarity came to no avail.

He is, however, signed to Lyor Cohen and Todd Moscowitz’s 300 imprint, which is also distributed through Atlantic.

Loyalty Rules

It’s a wonder that a fairly unaccomplished rapper was widely heralded by Gucci Mane, Future, and the most opulent of them all, Birdman. Outside of his obvious appeal to seasoned capitalist, the mass majority of those asked about Thug’s character said that he’s loyal. That’s a hell of a quality during these days and times.

YSL = No Saint Laurent

Thugga already has his eyes on entrepreneurship, as he’s currently working to create the Young Stoner Lifestyle imprint to sign his friends (i.e. PeeWee Longway).

Birdman Personally Sought Him Out

As the story goes Thug’s friends (and quite possibly the aforementioned rapper) PeeWee [Longway] introduced his music to one-half of Cash Money’s founding core. “He was like, ‘Stunna, you need to check into this.’ I heard it, and I was like, ‘I need to meet him. Bring him to me.’ So he flew to L.A. And we connected ever since.”

These days Birdamn acts as Thug’s big brother and mentor, as the rap star has yet to ink a proper deal with Cash Money. The mogul did express his hope that the ATLien will make that leap “in time.”

Not Much For Words Away From The Mic

Young Thug and “brevity” go hand in hand given the short responses that he gave during his Complex interview. But the mag reports that the bubbling star is much more comfortable among his day one homies than in media situations.
