Former Phoenix Suns standout Rex Chapman reportedly made $22 million during his 12-year NBA career. And just like half of the planet Earth, he probably wanted an iPhone 6.
Somewhere along the lines, there was a disconnect on whether or not he should actually pay for the items he picked up at a Scottsdale, AZ Apple store and authorities have busted the 46-year-old for shoplifting.
CBS is reporting that Chapman pretended to purchase items through an iPhone app through the store’s self-checkout system. Police say he then took merchandise to a local pawn shop and sold it for cash. He was said to have shoplifted $14,000 worth of merchandise from the Scottsdale Quarter retail center at Scottsdale Road and Greenway Parkway.
He is now facing nine felony counts of Organized Retail Theft and Trafficking in Stolen Goods.
Chapman has been said to have started his Apple capers in August, when employees started noticing him in the store more frequently as the goods began to disappear. They obviously recognized him for he was a fairly popular player in his heyday.
Hit the flip to see his struggle mugshot. Life comes at you fast, indeed.
