What Lil B has accomplished is nothing short of amazing and all we can do is bow down and thank the Based God for all of his Internet memes and various trends across social media.

“Lil B, if you’re reading this: keep cooking and don’t let anybody goad you into being a conventional opportunist.”

And now Lil B is tap dancing across the tongues of everyone in the ESPN offices and that conversation is being streamed into the living room of every sports fan as we head into one of the more intriguing NBA Finals in quite some time. With a threat to slap LeBron James with the Based God Curse, this could be the most opportune time to drop a mixtape. Right?

I mean, he’s still a rapper first, right?

Right?

Do you even call Lil B a rapper anymore? Go look at his Wikipedia page and you’ll find more written about everything else aside from his music. I remember the announcement that he was dropping the I’m Gay album but if you ask me anything about the album I couldn’t tell you a damn thing. Maybe we refer to Lil B as a rapper like we would refer to anyone on VH1’s Basketball Wives as an actual wife. Or, 80% of the Love & Hip Hop cast as an artist (Joseline Hernandez or Erica Mena anyone?).

This is no disrespect whatsoever to Lil B because the fact is that he doesn’t even need to rap anymore. He doesn’t think like the average rapper so maybe the best thing for him to do is avoid egregiously capitalizing on the exposure by dropping a mixtape in the midst of it. Most rappers would do that. But not Lil B. It’s totally unnecessary and, somehow, beneath him.

To do something as conventional as releasing a mixtape right before the NBA Finals begins with some wild image of him cursing LeBron James with James Harden weeping in the background, it would just be too simple for Lil B. And, ultimately, it could hurt more than it helps.

I’d prefer him to be this overlord of the Internet that people have a hard time defining than allowing him to minimalize his accomplishments by dropping a mixtape.

So, Lil B, if you’re reading this: keep cooking and don’t let anybody goad you into being a conventional opportunist. You’re smarter than that.
