It was only a matter of time before we got to the most definitive moment in the trial of the century: the trying on of the gloves. And boy, were the events leading up to this moment a doozy.

On the latest (Mar.15) episode of The People V. OJ Simpson, D.A. Christopher Darden was becoming aware that they were losing the jury to the “big moments” that Johnnie Cochran and company were producing regardless of the concrete evidence the prosecution had in tow.

Desperate to make a “big moment” of his own, Darden takes matters into his own hands and records the biggest swing-and-a-miss in courtroom history when he asks OJ to try on the gloves. A move that the object of his affection, Marcia Clark, was opposed to and basically forbade him to make.

Things for the defense team weren’t that much better as Johnnie Cochran’s past came back to haunt him, Robert Shapiro reverts to his old plea deal way of thinking, and Robert Kardashian begins to question Uncle Juice’s innocence.

Hit the flip and find out just how crazy things were beginning to get leading up to the most controversial and costly move the prosecution – or Christopher Darden rather – made during the trial.

While watching the trial live on TV with his students, Alan Dershowitz faxed Cochran the theory that the murders could’ve been drug related vis-a-viv Colombian Necktie.

Johnnie’s ex-wife appeared on A Current Affair to talk about his double life. The “Smoothest guy in LA” wasn’t too happy, but his current wife was livid with the fact that now her family, friends, and church congregation knew she was the other woman before becoming the wife.

Looking to ease tensions between the law enforcement and, well, himself, Robert Shapiro wore a pin representing police solidarity on his lapel to the courtroom. The team did not approve.

The discovery of the purchase receipt for the infamous bloody gloves in Nicole Brown’s belongings had Shapiro begging Robert Kardashian to convince the team to cut a plea.

OJ peeped game and called Shapiro for a one on one meeting where he accused Shapiro of “half-stepping” and threatened to kick him off the team if he didn’t get his act together. The Juice was sour that day.

Chris Darden took Marcia Clark to an Oakland birthday party and she was a hit with his peoples. His boys were also surprisingly supportive of the idea of them hooking up. Bet no one saw that coming.

When the time came to pluck the prune of an inebriated and willing Marcia Clark, Darden punked out at the last second. He immediately regretted it.

Back at the office, Darden told Marcia they should just “Go for it.” Marcia was giddy until she realized he was talking about making OJ put on the gloves. Two let downs and counting for the twice divorced district attorney. Also she emphatically opposed the idea.

After trying on the gloves himself, Shapiro realized they were too small for his own mittens. OJ was bigger than the average man so he introduced the idea that OJ try on the gloves. Now it was a matter of getting the prosecution to present the idea.

Looking to plant the idea in his head, F. Lee Bailey told Darden he had “the balls of a stud field mouse” before stating that if Darden didn’t ask OJ to try on the gloves then he would. Hook.

Darden took the bait and asked OJ to try on the gloves. Line.

OJ tried on the gloves and the rest is history. Sinker.

Marcia Clark was silently mortified. Let down numero tres. Not to mention there went any chance Darden had at getting the granny panties.

Chris Darden called the Goldman’s to apologize for the glove gamble. Again, he should’ve took his father’s advice to stay away from this trial.
