Tyrese Gibson has paid his dues. Having gone from a Coca-Cola commercial star, to a successful singer to a star actor, the current pastor on Lee Daniel’s new show, Star, Tyrese has earned everything he’s living for now.
Today (Feb. 13), the “Sweet Lady” singer checked into The Breakfast Club and delved into many subjects and revealed his more political side.
Chopping it up with the morning trio, Tyrese touched on many things including his feelings on Chrisette Michele performing at Trump’s inauguration, having ghostwriters in the studio, and saying that your favorite rapper might be gay.
Here are the 9 things we learned about Tyrese on The Breakfast Club.

1. Tyrese Challenge
Tyrese was cool with the Tyrese Challenge. He called Kevin Hart up to let him know he was going to act mad on social media but it was all in good fun.
2. Denzel Washington
Tyrese says that a few years ago Denzel Washington said if actors give themselves away for free on TV daily then no one’s going to want to come see them in movies on the weekend.
3. Donald Trump Props
Tyrese feels Donald Trump used Chrisette Michele, Steve Harvey, Kanye West and other famous Black figures as “props” because Agent Orange has “no [good] intentions towards Black people.”
4. Chrisette Michele
He says he hopes Chrisette Michele got paid to perform but said when artists perform for political figures they don’t get paid. He said even Beyoncé didn’t get paid for the few public and private performances she did for President Obama.
5. Steve Harvey
He still loves Steve Harvey but wasn’t feeling his co-sign of Comrade Trump.
6. Black-Ty
Even though he said he was retiring from music he says he’s releasing a new Hip-Hop album as Black-Ty called Identity Theft. The title is due to his team of ghostwriters penning his lyrics. No shame in his game.
7. Ghostwriters
He says as an “R&B ni**a” sitting in on Hip-Hop sessions, he’s witnessed most of your favorite rappers using ghostwriters to write their verses. He stopped short of naming names though.
8. Summoning The Ghosts
With the release of Identity Theft he’s going to ask every ghostwriter in the game who’s recorded a reference track to release their cuts.
9. Taboo
Tyrese told Envy that “It’s taboo to believe that none of your favorite rappers are homosexuals” amongst other things. He also adds that “if that man is in love with that man and he happens to be the dopest rapper on human feet, let that man live his life. Support him like you would support anybody gay or straight.”
