Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the new cinematic adaptation of 'The Color Purple,' featuring Fantasia in her film debut as Celie and Halle Bailey as a younger version of her sister, Nettie. Late-night host Bill Maher is being criticized for his comments during a discussion on race, crime, and poverty where he evoked an old trope about the city of Chicago and gun violence. During the segment on his "Real Time with Bill Maher" show, he asked, "Why aren't there a hundred giant Black celebrities, who would have the respect of those people, saying, ‘What are you doing to yourselves?"
