Mitt Romney unearthed the “birther debate” surrounding President Obama’s citizenship Friday (Aug. 24). The presidential hopeful hit Detroit alongside running mate, Paul Ryan, and joked that his birthplace has never been questioned stating, “no one’s sever asked to see my birth certificate.”

With heavy attention placed on his tax records, Romney took the shot at Obama after remarking that he was born in a nearby hospital. The former governor grew up in Michigan, where his father also held office.

Obama’s birthplace was questioned by Donald Trump, and even after releasing his birth certificate, some are still not buying it. Arizona sheriff, Joe Arpaio held a press conference last month announcing that he has proven that Obama is not American. “At the very least, I can tell you this, based on all of the evidence presented and investigated, I cannot in good faith report to you that these documents are authentic,”  he said of Obama’s birth certificate.

The Obama campaign responded to Romney remarks stating that he inserted himself in the discredited theory, a move that “should give pause to any rational voter.”
