Troy Ave is a restless independent rapper with his goals clearly outlined. Although the hustle is well-respected, how well does it, on top a robust social media presence (151K on Instagram, 63.5K on Twitter) translate into a lucrative career?
Well Complex got ahold of the Nielson Soundscan numbers following the release of his new album, Major Without a Deal, and to bluntly answer the question: It doesn’t.
The final tally reveals that Troy Ave only sold 4,373 copies of the album with a paltry 30 of those units being in physical format. The album has a guest-heavy roster including 50 Cent, Ty Dolla $ign, A$AP Ferg, Fabolous and more but that still wasn’t enough to work in Harry Powder’s favor.
Upon receiving the news, fans of the culture (albeit not of Troy Ave’s) pulled out the slander stick and beat him to oblivion with it. The Brooklyn rapper perceivably addressed his name trending in the wrong direction via his Instagram but all that did was fan the flames.
The album is available for stream and on iTunes if you need to see what the fuss was about.
Everybody else, take a look at the Troy Ave crucifixion that has taken place today, June 11.
