YG continues to divide his time between putting the finishing touches on his debut album, My Krazy Life and making sure his newfound success is spread amongst his Compton community.
The Def Jam/CTE rookie recently held an essay contest amongst the youth from the Los Angeles County Group Homes for the chance to allow their underprivileged situations a bit of betterment on that 25th day of December. YG himself actually handpicked 60 kids from hundreds of submissions in his first ever holiday outreach program.
Decked out in YG’s 400 apparrel, the kids trekked to Fox Hills Mall in Culver City and quickly grabbed up their favorite sneakers and clothing items. Some kindhearted individuals even spoke on how they were shopping for other family members.
In a statement to the Group Homes, the Young Gangsta spoke of the program’s significance in the long run. “My Christmas shopping experience should be a reminder to all to give back. The children were able to be carefree for a day and not have to face his or her reality,” he said.
Although the aforementioned My Krazy Life has experienced release delays atypical to the industry of today, YG hasn’t allowed the struggle to disassociate himself from being the local hero. He recently shot his “Left, Right” video on top of Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles while the entire neighborhood came out to support.
Rappers giving back is always something to be revered. Watch the children’s faces light up with glee in the video below.
