It’s Girl Scout cookies season across the nation, making fans of the sweet treats very happy and bringing in big sales for one very smart little girl. A savvy Girl Scout had the bright idea to sell her wares outside of a medical marijuana clinic and as one can imagine, she sold a whopping 117 boxes of cookies in record time.
Danielle Lei, 13, was the Scout who posted up in front of the Green Cross medical marijuana clinic in San Francisco last week. Mashable was on hand to take pictures of Lei and her mother, Carol Lei, move boxes of the cookies. In fact, Danielle’s mom says her daughter sold 37 more boxes in the same allotted two-hour period than she did the next day in front of a grocery store. Mashable has more.
From Mashable:
Carol said her two middle-school-aged daughters have sold Girl Scout cookies outside a medical marijuana clinic before, though this was the first time they stopped by The Green Cross. She usually has them set up shop at various points around San Francisco so they can learn about different environments while earning some cash. Plus, Carol figured this might be a good way to start a conversation about drugs and how some use marijuana as medicine while others just get high.
“You put it in terms that they may understand,” Carol said. “I’m not condoning it, I’m not saying go out in the streets and take marijuana […] It also adds a little bit of cool factor. I can be a cool parent for a little bit.”
Naturally, the people at Green Cross welcomed the cookie booth and snagged several boxes for themselves as well as patients coming to pick up their medicine. The pairing seemed to work for everyone involved, with a staff member stating the obvious connection.
It’s no secret that cannabis is a powerful appetite stimulant, so we knew this would be a very beneficial endeavor for the girls,” said Holli Bert in an email to Mashable “It’s all about location, and what better place to sell Girl Scout cookies than outside a medical cannabis collective?”
What better place, indeed.
Although medical marijuana is legal in Colorado, the Girl Scouts branch of that state sent out a tweet saying they don’t have Girl Scouts sell outside clinics. That isn’t stopping the Leis as they’re going to head back to the Green Cross this weekend for another round of sales.
