Jay-Z wrote “4:44” at 4:44 in the morning. No I.D. sampled Hannah Williams & The Affirmations “Late Nights & Heartbreak” (which is about infidelity) to nudge Jay into rapping about his marital indiscretions. Not only did it work but Jay rapped about it on Beyonce’s microphone. Just wow.
