BET To Air Second Coming? Doc Focused On Mobilizing The Black Vote [VIDEO]

According to polls, President Barack Obama and GOP hopeful Mitt Romney are in a tight contest with either side just besting the other by mere points depending on the survey. Both men have catered their campaign talks to a variety of audiences, including the African-American community. Just how critical is the Black vote to this race? An upcoming BET docu-series plans to examine the civic participation of African-Americans and how much progress has been made in their respective communities since Obama took office.

Brick City TV producers Marc Levin and Mark Benjamin (the minds behind Peabody Award-winning and Emmy-nominated series “Brick City“), and Academy Award-winning director Sam Pollard have all partnered with BET Networks for a two-part docu-series, “Second Coming: Will Black America Decide The 2012 Election,” which will air October 19, 9 p.m. ET/PT and October 26 at 9 p.m. as well.

Narrated by actress S. Epatha Merkerson, the series will feature comments from the likes of Snoop Lion, RZA, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, Redman, and 2 Chainz, among others. Pastor Jamal Bryant, Charles Perry and Tarsha Williams additionally will take viewers on the road and behind the scenes in battleground states as they reveal how efforts to raise voter participation and political involvement are progressing.

With little over a month to go before the showdown between President Obama and Mitt Romney on Election Day, the African-American vote remains as a critical component of the race. Although there was an overwhelming turnout in 2008 by the Black electorate, Obama’s success this fall hinges on the support of that base once more in 2012. Executive producer Sam Pollard hammered the point home and also the importance of the upcoming series via a statement made by way of BET.

“This groundbreaking series is a must see for the BET audience.” Said Pollard “The series digs deep and hits hard and is a must see for viewers in understanding how they can’t just be bystanders but fully engaged in this historic election.”
