Perhaps Ad Age should have rethought the decision to run a frivolous condom story about President Obama.

The respected advertising publication posted a story on the condom brand Durex, releasing a s-xually explicit post-election ad in China.

According to Ad Age:

The post features a picture of a smiling Michelle Obama holding her two hands widely apart, as if measuring the size of something. In another photo below, a less happy Ann Romney glumly holds up one small finger.

The Mandarin-language caption says it all: “The difference between Obama and Romney is…”

With all the more important stories coming out of the election, given Ad Age’s  reputation, the choice to run the story (and the title and “In China, Durex Shows Difference Between Obama and Romney“) isn’t sitting well with everyone. Also, pitting the size of Obama’s anatomy as the reason for winning an election reinforces a racial stereotype about Black men, and was dangerous territory from the start.

Do you think the ad is racist (click below to see the photo)?
