Frank Ocean has been the talk of the news circuit this week, and it has little to do with his music, and more to do with his s-xual preference. The singer revealed his truth via a message posted on Tumblr Tuesday (July 3), garnering support from the music industry, and his mother, who took to Twitter to share her thoughts.
Katonya Breaux Riley praised Ocean for his decision to come forward. “My son is brave and honest,” she wrote. “I am very proud of him.”
Like any good mother, Riley is her son’s main supporter, often posting photos of the family, and his career milestones online.
While Ocean’s revelation was originally meant to be placed inside his CD case, the 24-year-old opted to release the letter early, after it was prematurely revealed that he sang about loving another man on his forthcoming Channel Orange debut. Some have speculated whether or not Ocean strategically made the announcement just ahead of the album’s release, but he doesn’t necessarily need the added publicity. In the last year he’s gone from Internet sensation, to sought after collaborator, working with the likes of Beyoncé, Brandy, Jay-Z and Kanye West, to name a few.
