Hip-Hop has had hypebeasts before the word was even properly invented. Instead of kicks and streetwear, and sometime whether or not it is truly deserved, some rappers generate so much adulation and excitement so fast, that an epic let down is inevitable.
These rap cats were like cant miss high school prospects that ended up fizzling out before going pro, if at all. Like too many blue chip recruits to name, these MC suffered from poor work ethics, bloated egos or just plain bad luck. Instead of classic albums, fans have been blessed with odd behavior, suspect music or frustration at a lack of any substantial new product.
Hip-Hop heads have voracious appetites for fresh new music, and the rappers on this list have failed to deliver when compared to the immense expectations that were heaped on them. Continue below to see the top 10 Rappers That Failed To Live Up To Great Expectations.

Canibus
Can-I-Bus dared to challenge LL and for a minute his other worldly lyricism had him solidified as that next dude. Then his debut album dropped. The Hip-Hop massive was not impressed, and lost interest. Canibus was last seen in a pay per view battle reading his rhymes off a notepad. Bruh…
Asher Roth
Asher was supposed to be the next great white MC, destined for mainstream success. Mac Miller and Macklemore have those spots now, though.
Nipsey Hussle
Nipsey Hussle was thought to be the second coming of Snoop Dogg. However, he still hasn’t dropped an album and TDE is running the West right now. Is what it is.
Papoose
Papoose signed a reportedly $1.5 million dollar deal with Jive back in 2006. The fact that The Nacirema Dream didn’t drop until this year is just a sample of the struggle.
Chief Keef
Yeah, Chief was in Paris working with Yeezy, you say. Whatever b. That’s not helping Interscope’s predicament considering they shelled out mad dough to sign the teen rapper, and his suspect debut album, Finally Rich, ain’t even go gold yet.
Cory Gunz
We sincerely like Cory Gunz’s music around these parts. But he ripped that “A Milli” beat apart five longs years ago, caught a Young Money deal in 2010, but still hasn’t dropped a proper debut.
Vado
With Dipset in flux, Vado was poised to lead the Harlem rap renaissance. But after some hot singles, his Interscope deal ended up crushing his momentum.
Lil B
Yes, the “Wonton Soup” rapper has a legion of devoted fans, with some willing to forsake their own girlfriends to the Based God. Less than 2,000 of you stans purchased his I’m Gay (I’m Happy) album the week it dropped. So there’s that.
Diggy Simmons
Diggy set the Internets on fire, and destined his big brother Jo Jo to more slander, with a freestyle over Nas’ “Made You Look.” He dropped his debut album, Unexpected Arrival, last year. But don’t front, a lot of y’all just ain’t care.
Jay Electronica
Jay Elec made headlines after choosing to roll with the Roc, even getting Diddy to react over his apparent snub (never forget, “Hurts when breathe”). That was back in 2010. It’s 2013, still no album.
