Even the word prolific isn’t enough to describe the Roots drummer and frontman Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. Besides leading his band daily on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, recording albums with the legendardy Roots crew and helping to put the finishing touches on a long delayed D’Angelo project, Questlove is releasing a memoir.
Titled Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove, the memoir finds the Philadelphia native incorporating his thoughts and opinions on music while detailing his life story. According to a press release:
The collection is a punch-drunk memoir in which everyone’s favorite Questlove tells his own story while tackling some of the lates, the greats, the fakes and the true originals of the music world. He digs deep into the album cuts of his life, and unearths some pivotal moments in Black music and pop culture. But more than just a series of remembrances Mo’ Meta Blues is a book that also questions the nature of memory and the idea of a post modern Black man saddled with some post-modern Blues. It’s the side wind of a one-of-a-kind mind. It’s a rare gift that gives as well as takes.
The book sounds like it will be like a more in-depth and detailed take on Questo’s engaging Twitter feed. Which is a good thing.
Recently, Quest once again reiterated that D’Angelo’s long awaited new album, tentatively titled, James River, will be released this year.
The book, Quest’s first, is co-authored by Ben Greenman who is a journalist, critic and currently an editor at the New Yorker. Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove will be in stores on June 18th via Grand Central Publishing. Check out the book cover on the next page.
