Yesterday (April 8), New York City collectively salivated over a future of finger lickin’ goodness after a report announced Chick-Fil-A’s plan to open numerous restaurants in the five boroughs. While the southern establishment is sure to quiet many of our stomachs’ rumblings, there’s a list of notable fast food joints that have yet to infiltrate the city.

With the massive palette of food choices in NYC, it’s hard for outsiders to believe that any quick dine-in choice is absent from the selection pool. But such is life in the Big Apple, a place where McDonald’s, Chipotle, and Subway restaurants are as common in Manhattan as bodegas are in the surrounding boroughs. Pair those with independent proprietors that specialize in sandwiches and other delights, and that should be enough, right?

Wrong.

Check social media, and you’ll see folks clamoring over the greasy foods that they wish they could get their mitts on. Soon Chick-Fil-A will be off of that list, but here’s 10 more establishments NYC needs.

Waffle House

New Yorkers make a beeline to the closest bodega at the close of late (read: drunken) nights, but that would change if an “All-Star” breakfast was an option.

Sonic

New York City deserves to be served edibles by servers on skates and drink happy hour beverages sans the libations.

Zaxby’s

If chicken without the bun is what you seek, we suggest that you head to this southern chain. Oh, wait. That’s right. That’s far from possible.

Fuddruckers

Do you see that brand messaging?

Jack In The Box

This place is a vessel of burger delight that NYC locals would love. You folks should start a petition or something.

A&W Restaurant

Root beer may be the soft drink brand’s specialty, but they make a hell of a burger too.

Cook-Out

Though we can’t imagine that these prices would be the same in NYC, we’d appreciate the cheap eats.

Cracker Barrel

Oh how New Yorkers wish they didn’t have to travel to New Jersey for a stack of pancakes from the self-described “Old Country Store.”

Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits

Ask anyone from the south about Bojangles, and we bet that their faces light up in glee. Doesn’t NYC deserve that feeling, too?

In-N-Out Burger

Our West Coast and Texas brethren often describe this place as the burger mecca. And that’s without mentioning the secret menu. Come hither, if you will.
