There’s even more to the story building on Black Ink Crew: Chicago, although this particular chapter happens to be incredibly tragic. The sister of the tattoo shop owner, Ryan Henry, happens to be the murdered ex-girlfriend of former Chicago Bulls player, Eddy Curry.

Ryan tells a bit of the story at the start of the show. He explains that his sister, Nova Henry, was killed some time after offering him the money to open up his first shop. The clearly painful experience pushed Ryan to pursue his dreams, as he says on the series premiere.

However, Nova’s story is one that may sound familiar. The 24-year-old mom was apparently Curry’s high school sweetheart, with whom she had two children— a boy and a girl. Nova was murdered by an attorney she hired and reportedly became involved with on a non-professional level.

Frederick Goings shot Nova and her baby daughter, Ava Henry-Curry, inside her apartment in 2009. Goings was sentenced to life in prison, but the story is even more complicated. Curry’s wife appeared on the last season of Basketball Wives, and claimed he cheated on her with a woman who died. Curry and his wife are now raising Noah, his young son with Nova.

Ryan detailed a heartbreaking scene of cleaning up his sister and nieces’s blood. Noah, was a toddler at the time and witnessed his mother and sister’s grisly murders. He was reportedly found sitting on a couch with his blood all over his body.

Sad all the way around. Watch more on Nova and Ava’s story below.
