10 Holidays That Hip-Hop Should Adopt
This coming Monday is Labor Day, a federal holiday observed as a day of festivities held in honor of working people, in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September.
But in the city of Atlanta, the first Monday in September has a different meaning. This weekend in the ATL is the 6th annual Luda Day Weekend.
For the past six years, Atlanta rapper Ludacris has taken over Labor Day weekend in the A and turned the holiday into his own celebration, through a series of parties, charity events and concerts, drawing celebrities from all over the country to join in on the party.
Over here at HipHopWired, Luda Day got us thinking…what if other rappers decided to took over holidays or in some cases, just make up their own.

Drakentine’s Day Weekend
When: February 14th
Instead of Valentine’s Day, why not rename Valentine’s Day… Drakentine’s Day?
A nice, quite evening with your significant other (or jump off), spending quality time, sipping Moscato, listening to everyone’s favorite R&B Drake songs or whatever kind of soft core acts Drake would do on Valentine’s Day.
Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa’s 4/20 Weekend
When: April 20th
This would be no more than an excuse for the Jets and the Taylor Gang to get together and smoke weed.
But that’s what 4/20 is all about.
Hip-Hop Memorial Day Weekend
When: May 28th
Memorial Day stands now as a holiday to remember our fallen soldiers. Making it a day to remember our fallen rappers like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Big Pun, Big L, Pimp C and many others isn’t such a bad idea.
Will Smith’s Big Willie Weekend
When: 4th Of July
Will Smith should be required to throw a barbecue every 4th of July weekend and perform “Summertime.”
The Dungeon Family Reunion Weekend
When: TBA
Every year in Atlanta, the Dungeon Family should have a reunion. We’re talking Outkast, Goodie Mob, Organized Noise, Sleepy Brown, Backbone, Killer Mike, Witchdoctor. The whole DF crew.
Lil Wayne & YMCMB’s Birdman Day Weekend
When: June (Father’s Day)
Every year around Father’s Day, Lil Wayne should honor his daddy for an entire weekend.
Uncle Luke’s Freaknik Weekend
When: TBA
Blacks in Atlanta have been trying to revive Freaknik for a few years now, but it’s not working.
Since Uncle Luke’s run for mayor didn’t work out, Luke might as well get back to what he does best and lets bring Freaknik weekend to Miami.
He’s just the man for the job.
Thug Holiday Weekend
When: July-August
Inspired by Trick Daddy’s 2002 album, Thug Holiday, lets nominate Jeezy to put together a weekend for the thugs. Gotta keep the thugs motivated and have something to look forward to.
Dress Up Like Nicki Minaj Day Weekend
When: October 31st
Since Nicki Minaj likes to dress up in ridiculous outfits, October 31st should be Dress Up Like Nicki Minaj Day. Her fans will dress up like Nicki Minaj and Barbies for Halloween anyway.
Either that or just wear the stupidest outfit you can find.
Dre Day Weekend
When: December 15th
Even though Detox is never ever coming out, December 15th marks the day Dr. Dre’s debut album and a Hip-Hop classic was released.
In honor of the good Doctor and his legacy, 12/15 should be claimed in rap as Dre Day.
